Top 7 Mistakes When Buying Spray Equipment
Be smart about sites that claim to save you money when you buy a spray system or spray gun!
Here are 7 things to watch out for when you’re looking for a sprayer. There are many ways a price can look much better than it really is. Don’t fall for any of them!
These warnings apply to spray systems, spray guns, and parts and accessories.
Bargain sites may actually have an inflated price.
For example, some new Fuji Spray systems advertised on eBay are priced way ABOVE the normal prices. The “normal” price is the lowest price that Fuji Spray allows distributors to charge.
This is always the price here at Phelps Refinishing — except for some tiny parts I assemble myself, or that I need to buy in bulk, in case you need one right away.
There’s no reason to pay a higher price!
Discounts and percentages off — can trick you into thinking you’re saving $.
There are many ways to calculate “percentages off” — and the discount or percentage off can be from a dollar amount that the seller has made up out of thin air.
The standard maximum discount is presented in simple dollars: the $ amount difference from the MSRP — the Manufacturers Suggested Retail Price.
In some cases, Fuji Spray offers special promotions for a limited period of time. Some distributors offer discounts during a weekend that Fuji Spray authorizes.
Shipping free from Hong Kong? Good luck returning one!
There are companies based in other countries that advertise very low prices — lower than the prices that Fuji Spray permits, or even “or best offer” prices. There are catches!
One company catch ships from Hong Kong. If you’re dissatisfied with your order or need to return it because it arrived damaged, imagine how much international return shipping would cost!
Another company is a kind of middleman between Chinese companies and customers here in the USA. They say all orders ship from the USA. However, the long shipping time shows that your order is probably shipped from abroad into the USA, and THEN it’s shipped to you “from the USA.”
What about the standard 24-month warranty? No way to confirm this before you place your order.
the seller may not accept returns.
The risk is obvious!
Buying a used spray system without a warranty is risky.
The seller may well be honest, and the system could be a good buy — but you are taking a risk, because the 2-year Fuji Spray warranty is not transferable to a new owner.
the shipping cost for a used or open box item can bring it close to the price of a brand new system under warranty.
I offer the standard free shipping for spray guns and turbines that Fuji Spray has refurbished and thoroughly checked out — and they come with the standard 24-month Fuji Spray warranty.
advice before and after sale, parts, and repairs?
Online and big box companies can’t help you much with choosing the best Fuji Spray products for your projects and budget. Nor do they keep all the consumables and parts in stock, or repair your products if repairs are needed.
I aim to provide all of this.
Happy Spraying!
