Years of Experience

I was born in Chicago in 1945. I first started refinishing kitchen cabinets when I was in High School helping my father in his refinishing business. I attended the University of Illinois at Chicago and served in the Peace Corps in India. After working with my father in his refinishing business, I worked as a refinisher with other companies until I started Phelps Refinishing about 40 years ago.

My primary purpose as a professional and a businessman, besides providing a living for my family, has always been to provide a service to my customers, in an honest, friendly, and competent manner. As a refinisher, I prided myself in being on time with the highest quality of workmanship possible. I have been called an artist at times, and although there are touches of artistry involved in my work, a craftsman would be a better label.

My aim as a craftsman has always been perfection on every job. Of course I never reach it, as it is impossible to reach -- but hopefully any imperfections are only seen in my eyes. I retired from refinishing in 2006, and now I strive for perfection in being a distributor for Fuji spray systems.

Before retiring in 2006 I had been refinishing kitchen cabinets for over 40 years, with thousands of satisfied customers.

I was located on the Wisconsin, Illinois border halfway between Chicago and Milwaukee, so I was in perfect position to serve all of northeastern Illinois and southeastern Wisconsin, including the Chicago and Milwaukee metro areas. I traveled all of the Midwest — as far as Detroit, Michigan, for example — to do on site kitchen cabinet refinishing. My slogan was “Have spray gun, will travel!”

In 2012 I moved to Palmview, TX…. Now I am sending Fuji spray systems all over the world.

Why Fuji Spray systems?

As a professional cabinet refinisher, I was often spraying under in a cramped kitchens without enough ventilation or in a dusty shop. When I began using HVLP turbine spray systems, I went through six different turbines in several different brands. All of them went bad in three to 15 months. Finally I bought a Fuji.

At the time it was the only brand that carried a two-year warranty. That first Fuji system I bought lasted more years than two!

It’s my experience and confidence in Fuji that convinced me to begin selling Fuji Spray systems — as a great value for a great product.

I’ve been an authorized Fuji Spray distributor since 2002. And I know the product so well that I’m also an authorized Fuji Spray repair and service agent in the United States.
