S. Baer - December 2024 Customer of the Month

S. baer compares his hobby pro 2 with his newer mini-mite 4

Too modest to share his whole name, our December 2024 Customer of the Month has been a Phelps Refinishing customer for over four years. You’ll find him of special interest because he’s used both his Fuji Hobby-PRO and his newer Mini-Mite 4 GXPC system. He’s also used the PPS 2.0 H/O kit with his Mini-Mite, as well as the 8-ounce mini cups for smaller quantities of spray fluid.

Why make the leap to the Mini-Mite 4?

In his own words: "The new 4-stage turbine is an upgrade from a Fuji 2-stage Hobby Pro 2 which I have been using for several years. Needed some extra "umpf" to properly atomize latex. The 4-stage turbine has over twice the PSI of my 2-stage unit (7.5 vs. 3.5 psi) and it has made a big difference in the finish for latex coatings."

“I’ve sprayed latex on cabinets, shelving and wall units with the Hobby Pro 2.  While the finish is “acceptable”, it still had a subtle orange-peel texture.  The Hobby Pro 2 does a great job with thinner finish coatings like polyurethane and lacquer. I have sprayed those on table tops and counters quite successfully.”

Toy Chest Sprayed with his new Fuji Mini-Mite 4

He made a toy chest for his grand-nephew, and used the Mini-Mite 4, aiming at a “professional-like finish.” He used both latex — Benjamin Moore’s Advance in semi-gloss — and a clear poly finish— General Finishes High Performance in satin.

The photos of the toy chest were taken in his shop. If you’re like me, you enjoy seeing glimpses of other craft shops.
