Both Bob Vila and US News and World Report rank Fuji Semi-PRO best DIY HVLP Sprayer
Two new comparison tests this spring recommend the Fuji Semi-PRO system for the best HVLP sprayer for DIY use.
Bob Vila names the Fuji Semi-PRO 2 as the best PRO level DIY sprayer.
In “The Best Paint Sprayers for Your Paint Jobs, Tested,” published in April, 2024 at the classic home renovation website, Bob Vila, the Fuji Semi-PRO 2 earns the top spot as the best “PRO” level DIY sprayer.
Testing was done with both water-based and oil-based paints, on a rough pine fence with knots and knot holes. The Semi-PRO 2 got top marks in all the categories rated: ease of use, coverage, cleanliness, noise, and value.
In addition to the comparison tests, the Bob Vila team consulted professional painter Matt Boden before publishing the final report written by Mark Wolfe and edited by Paul Rankin.
U.S. News & World Report names the Fuji Spray 2 the best 2024 HVLP sprayer for DIY use.
In its May, 2024 article, “7 Best Paint Sprayers of 2024,” U.S. News & World Report names the Fuji Spray Semi-Pro 2 M-Model the best HVLP Sprayer. (I apologize for the pop up ads in their article.)
Their detailed review of the Fuji Semi-Pro lists both Pros and Cons, noting that this model is “one of the most highly rated HVLP paint sprayers across different platforms (professional and DIY).
Highlights from the semi-pro 2 review
Results:
As far as spray results go: “If you plan to paint walls or stain furniture, this HVLP model will give you the professional finish you’re looking for.”
The spray pattern and air control valve adjust spray to minimize overspray and provide smoother results than are possible with most DIY sprayers.
Compared with most DIY sprayers, the Fuji Semi-PRO offers greater 2-stage 1400-watt 5.0 PSI power, for faster coverage.
Versatility:
You can switch the gravity-feed Semi-PRO 2 7002G to a bottom-feed model without buying any extra parts.
The full range of 6 Fuji 7020 M-Model air caps make it possible to get good results with all viscosities of finishes, from super fine to thick. (Note: The Semi-PRO 2 comes with the 1.3 mm tip; for spraying latex, add the 1.8 mm tip or choose the Hobby-PRO 2 system, which comes with that tip.)
Rust-proof stainless steel fluid passages make this sprayer useful for water-based finishes (as well as solvent-based.)
Smaller 8-oz fluid cups are available, for smaller spray jobs. The convenient 3M PPS 2.0 H/O kits also work with the Semi-PRO 2 system — with your choice of 3 oz, 6 oz, and 13.5 oz disposable liners.
Durability:
Metal parts! Most DIY sprayers are mostly plastic.
The turbine case is powder-coated strong metal.
A 25-foot air hose helps keep the turbine away from the spraying area, and washable filters also protect the turbine.
CONS:
The two Cons the reviewers note: the price, and that it comes with only one air cap installed.
Comments from Roger
The price, of course, reflects the Semi-PRO spray system’s durability, comfort, and performance.
The Semi-PRO 2 comes with the air cap sized for most can order packages that include the extra air caps of your choice, you with either the gravity-feed Semi-PRO 2, or the bottom-feed Semi-PRO 2. If later you want to add another air cap to your assortment, I keep a full inventory of M-Model 7020-series air caps.
As always, I’m available for advice on choosing the products that best meet your specific needs and budget. For example, you may wonder if it would be better for you to spend more for a Mini-Mite 3 or Mini-Mite 4. Call me! 800-377-5662 M-F 9-5!
